Are There Fruits That Help You Gain Weight?
Monday, October 10th, 2011
Fruits are full of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, and they are a part of a healthy diet. Fruit is often thought of as a low-calorie food but there are also fruits that help you gain weight. These include avocado and banana.
Avocado
Avocado is rich in many nutrients but it is also higher in fat than many other fruits. People who are trying to lose weight or who are watching their calorie intake are sometimes told to avoid this fruit. Avocado has more calories than other fruits and it is one of the few fruits that contain significant amounts of fat. However, the fats in avocado are mainly so-called “healthy fats”, essential fatty acids that have many health-giving properties. If you need to put on weight, eating avocados can be a healthy way to do it. If you need to lose weight, you do not need to avoid avocado completely, but you should eat other types of fruit too and not eat avocados excessively.
Banana
Another fruit that is relatively high in calories is banana. Weight-watchers often avoid it because of its calorie content, but it is also rich in many important vitamins and minerals, especially potassium. Eating bananas can be a healthy way to increase weight. If you are trying to cut your calorie intake, it is often recommended that you should limit the amount of bananas you eat and not eat more than one or two a day. Banana is also more filling than oranges, apples or kiwis, and it can be a good addition to a fruit salad or smoothie to make it more nutritious.
Other fruits that help you gain weight include dried fruits. These are high in sugar and can be rich in calories. If you need to increase your weight, try eating them as healthy snacks.
